We are actively working to reduce the environmental footprint of our production, our locations, transportation and cooling equipment.
Our target by 2020: 50% less direct CO2 emissions (compared to 2010)
100% of electricity generated from renewable energy
Our production and logistics centre in Edelstal has been operating for many years with electricity exclusively supplied from renewable energy, which today applies to all branches in Austria.
We are very proud of the fact that all Coca‑Cola HBC products are made with green power.
By strategically combining road and rail in our logistics, we are able to reduce traffic on our roads, energy consumption (-54 %), greenhouse gas emissions (-667 tons CO2), sulphur dioxides (-51 %) and nitrogen oxide (-76 %).
Direct transport between Edelstal and Vienna could be made more efficient from an economic and ecological point of view by employing a shuttle system. Special lightweight vehicles are loaded and dispatched in order to only be coupled to or uncoupled from a truck. Due to short run–through times we are able to increase the number of trips per vehicle and day and to reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.
Safe and Eco-Driving
Changing our drivers’ behavior makes a major contribution to reducing CO2 emissions. Through our Safe and Eco-Driving program, we are teaching our truck and company car drivers techniques like driving at optimum speed and applying early gear changes.
Energy-efficient cooling equipment
Together with our suppliers we work to improve the equipment’s energy efficiency. By means of a new range of products employed since 2015, we were able to reduce our energy use by 50-66% compared to the previous models. Chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) are almost completely replaced by new cooling systems using exclusively hydrocarbons or carbon dioxide.
